Fisher Piano Studio at Ohio University
Miguel Castro Bautista

Miguel Castro is currently pursuing the Master of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy at the Ohio University School of Music where he is a student of Dr. Christopher Fisher. He began his musical studies at the age of ten at the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela in the city of Puerto Ordaz and studied piano with Professor Armando Navas Luque. At 12 years old, he performed his first public piano recital. He has performed recitals in Venezuela, Peru and Brazil. His musical education has been conducted by Master Leopoldo Igarza, José Luis Presa, María Luisa Padrón and Gerardo Gerulewicz; and his piano education has been taught by Gioconda Vásquez, David Ascanio and Igor Lavrov. Miguel Castro graduated from “José Ángel Lamas” Superior School of Music, achieving with honors the title of Piano Performer. He studied Master in Music in piano performance at the Simón Bolívar University under the tutelage of Russian pianist Igor Lavrov.
He has attended master clases taught by Héctor Villasana, Claudio Carbó Montaner, Guíomar Narváez, Guadalupe Parrondo, Doménico Lombardi, Maura Pansini, Franco Medori, Alexandre Dossin and Vivian Weilerstein. In July 2011, he won the 1st Prize in the “III Rosario Marciano National Competition” (Venezuela). In November of that year, he received the Student Merit Award granted by the Central University of Venezuela in the Artistic-Cultural Mention. Moreover, he has performed as a soloist with the Symphonic Orchestra of Paraguaná, the Symphonic Orchestra of Barinas, the Symphonic Orchestra of Falcón and the Youth Symphonic Orchestra Inocente Carreño. In December 2017, he participated in the IV Federico Chopin Competition in Lima-Peru. In January 2019, he participated in the XIV Santa Catarina International Festival in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil.
He worked as a piano accompanist in the Fedora Alemán Lyrical Singing Chair conducted by Professor Lotty Ipinza during the academic year 2014-2015. He was the titular pianist of the Youth Symphonic Band Simón Bolívar during the years 2014-2015. He obtained a Certificate in Orchestral Conducting by the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the Central University of Venezuela in 2015, under the tutelage of Master Miguel Ángel Monroy and Juan Francisco Sans. He was a piano accompanist in the Orchestral Conducting Chair conducted by Maestro Alfredo Rugeles at the Simón Bolívar University. He was a piano teacher in the EEMMAL and he conducted his own Piano Cathedra in the “Juan Manuel Olivares” National Conservatory of Music. He lived in Lima where he worked as a Piano Teacher in the Extension Courses at the National Conservatory of Music of Peru during the years 2018 and 2019.

Taae Hamid

Originally from Gallipolis, Ohio, Taae Hamid is a sophomore piano major within the Honors Tutorial College and School of Music at Ohio University where he is a student of Dr. Christopher Fisher. During the summer of 2019, Taae was studied at the Brevard Summer Music Institute and Festival in North Carolina. Taae’s former piano instructors include Teodora Owen, Cheryl Jarvis, and Allen Strait. He frequently collaborates with many musicians throughout his community, and was named the student accompanist of his high school choir during his junior and senior years of high school. Taae frequently plays in different churches, and has also accompanied the string and vocal students at his local theater. His primary interests besides piano include stargazing, reading, and running. Taae is pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.
Xuan He

Xuan He is currently working toward the Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts (Artist Track) at Ohio University where she studies piano with Dr. Christopher Fisher and musicology with Dr. Garrett Field.
She completed her Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy at Florida State University where she studied with Dr. Heidi L.Williams. In 2016, Xuan graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance at Nazareth College of Rochester. As a native of China, Xuan also holds a degree in Musicology (music education track) from Shandong Normal University. During her years at FSU, Xuan taught private piano lessons to students of all ages and worked as the choir accompanist at Tallahassee Chinese Christian Church.

Gloria Lemus

Gloria Lemus is a graduate student of Dr. Christopher Fisher at the Ohio University School of Music where she is pursuing the Master of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy. Originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, she began her piano studies at the Victoriano Lopez Music School in San Pedro Sula at the age of 14. Here she participated in national music festivals and competitions inside the music school. She graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in music performance from Valdosta State University, where she studied under Dr. Lyle Indergaard. During her time in Valdosta, GA. Gloria has been part of the musicians at Peach State Summer Theater (2017 & 2018), has accompanied The South Georgia String Project, the VSU Wind Ensemble and the VSU Concert Choir, as well as having her own private studio and assisting in group piano lessons. Gloria has participated in masterclasses with pianists from USA, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, among others.
Yun-Ju Liao

Yun-Ju Liao is a graduate student of Dr. Christopher Fisher at the Ohio University School of Music where she is a recipient of a graduate performance scholarship. She hold a bachelor's degree in piano performance from the National Taiwan University of Arts where she also studied violin and music education. During her undergraduate studies, she collaborated with choirs, instrumentalists, vocal soloists and in piano ensembles. In addition to concerts and recital appearances, she has performed in hospitals, nursing homes, and social parties. She has maintained a piano and violin studio since graduation.
Xiaohe Li

Xiaohe Li is a currently pursuing the Master of Music degree in piano performance and pedagogy at the Ohio University School of Music where she is a student of Dr. Christopher Fisher. She began studying the piano at age 9 and went on to receive a BM degree from Central China Normal University.
She has won many prizes including second prize in the Third German O'Miller International Piano Competition and prizes in the Hong Kong International Piano Tournament. She has taught music and basic English in primary schools in Chiengmai and participated in an art exchange at National Sun Yat-Sen University and National Taiwan Normal University.

Zehao Liu

Zehao Liu is currently pursuing the graduate certificate in piano performance at Ohio University the School of Music where she is a student of Dr. Christopher Fisher. She grew up in the Cangzhou city of Hebei, China where she began piano studies at the age of 5. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics in the Central University of Finance and Economics in China, Beijing, and a master’s degree in financial economics at the Ohio University.
During her study in piano performance in Ohio University, she has played in the master classes of Dr. Stephanie Wu, Dr. Richard Masters and Thomas Pandolfi. In 2018, she attended the MTNA national conference in Orlando and presented a poster with the MTNA Collegiate Chapter of MTNA. In 2018, she performed the Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 with the orchestra of the Daqing Opera House in China.
At the same time, she dedicates herself in the music education and cultural exchange. Together with two other Ohio University alumni, they have founded a company named PuBoSi International Culture and Education. PuBoSi endeavors to establish an international platform which integrates all the different types of global educational resources to deliver the top-level music educations, international culture exchange programs and high-end commercial performances in both China and the US.Last year, they did a cultural exchange program “East meet West” in the Nine Art Gallery in Shenyang and several lectures in universities and conservatories in China.

Evan McAuley

Evan McAuley is a graduate student studying with Dr. Christopher Fisher at the Ohio University School of Music, where he is pursuing his Masters of Music in piano pedagogy and performance. He received his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Capital University in 2018, where he studied with Dr. Tianshu Wang. Evan collaborates with many instrumentalists and vocalists alike, and is an active member of Ohio University’s MTNA collegiate chapter. Evan presented “Teaching Music in the 21st Century: The Implementation of Technology into Popular Music Pedagogy Methods” at Capital’s Undergraduate Research Symposium in 2018, which urged pedagogues of old to embrace music applications of today.

Anh Nguyen

Anh Nguyen is a third-year doctoral student at Ohio University. She started studying Piano Performance since age 5 in Vietnam. She was classically trained at Ho Chi Minh city Conservatory by Ms. Kim Thanh Le who was a highly respected senior Vietnamese piano teacher, and Dr. Eun-Young Joo who was a descendant of Heinrich Neuhaus’ pedagogic line and Viennese tradition. In 2015, Anh moved to the United States and continued to study the art of piano playing with Dr. Tuyen Tonnu and Dr. Duce Geoffrey at Illinois State University. At Ohio University, she studies with Dr. Christopher Fisher. She has received scholarships and assistantships for her entire studying both in Vietnam and United States, including summer assistantship and scholarship at OPUS Chamber Music Camp 2018 in Illinois and at the Summit Music Festival 2019 in New York.
Besides being a pianist, Anh Nguyen holds a Bachelor degree in Thermal Engineering and enjoys working on scholarly research in music. She had her research papers presented at the 17th International Conference of the Asia-Pacific Society for Ethnomusicology (APSE) 2014 in Thailand, and Global Arts Festival 2019 at Ohio University. At Ohio University, she studies Musicology with Dr. Garrett Field.

A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Lydia Sander is a junior piano major in the Honors Tutorial College and School of Music at Ohio University where she is pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. Lydia is a student of Dr. Christopher Fisher, with whom she has studied since 2012. Former teachers include Prof. George Haddad, Ruth Manahan, John Funk, and Kathryn Rarick.
Throughout her years of studying piano, Lydia has performed as a solo artist in various competitions, recitals, churches, and special events in addition to collaborating with instrumentalists, vocalists, choirs, and dancers. Recent artistic achievements include performing as collaborative pianist for the Ohio University Women’s Ensemble since 2018 and being awarded second place in the 2019 OMTA Graves Piano Duet/Duo Competition with duo partner, Joseph Stacy. Lydia maintains a vibrant piano in Lancaster and Athens (ACMS) and serves as board secretary for the Ohio University Collegiate Chapter of MTNA, who was awarded Collegiate Chapter of the Year at the 2019 National Conference in Spokane, Washington.
Lydia is honored to be selected to the Ohio University Presidential Leadership Society for the 2019-2020 academic year. Laura Silva

Laura Silva is a versatile musician with over 15 years of professional experience. She recently graduated with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy under the tutelage of Dr. Christopher Fisher at Ohio University, where she is continuing her piano studies combined with her research interests as a PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Arts program. She holds an assistantship at the IArts School and she is the director of the Piano Ensembles Project at the Athens Community School of Music.
During her graduate studies at OU, Laura was a group piano instructor for music-major college students, and a collaborative pianist of University Singers and Choral Union as part of her assistantship. She has also been a private piano instructor at ACMS, and a collaborative pianist for college and graduate students. She has been the instructor of Piano Safari and Piano Ensembles classes at the ACMS Summer Week; she has also collaborated with the Music Theater Summer Camp and assisted the Piano Summer Camp.
Laura Silva has been awarded the Silvia Reynolds Eckes Scholarship (2017-2019), the 2nd Prize at the Ohio International Piano Duo & Duet Competition with Teodora Owen (2018), the Graduate Achievement in Performance Award at the Annual OU School of Music Honors Assembly (2018), and the OU Diversity Fellowship (2019-2020). She premiered the nationally awarded piano solo piece “Art Miniatures” by Ryne Siesky (2018) at the West Fork New Music Festival at Fairmont State University (WV), the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Conference in Ashland, and the Society of Composers International Invitational at West Virginia University.
Two of her Elementary Piano Ensemble pieces are published by Piano Safari. She has recently published the article “The Power of Piano Ensembles: Building Collaboration, Musicianship, and Community” for The Piano Magazine: Clavier Companion in the special edition of summer 2019. She has joined the OU MTNA Chapter as Treasurer (2017-2018) and Vice-President (2018-2020), and has presented posters and conferences at several MTNA Symposia, State and National Conferences. She will give an individual workshop and an OU MTNA presentation at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in Lombard, IL (July, 2019).
In her native city, Caracas, Laura was a piano teacher at Mozarteum Caracas School of Music, where she created the innovative Piano Ensembles project (2014) that she has replicated in the US. Laura directed a documentary (2006) that was presented on Venezuelan National TV, and it is available on YouTube and Vimeo.
Laura holds degrees from the Juan Jose Landaeta Conservatory, Central University of Venezuela (Bachelor in Social Psychology) and a Master of Music from the Simon Bolivar University. Her piano mentors have been Manuel Laufer, Carlos Urbaneja, Elizabeth Guerrero and Abraham Abreu. She has participated of piano master classes of Rachel Kudo, Michael Chertock, Vadym Kholodenko, Edith Peña, Kristiina Junttu, Laura Mikkola, Michel Beroff, Prisca Benoit, Roger Muraro, Gabriela Montero, Carlos Duarte, Walter Blankenheim, Frank Fernández and Judith Jaimes. Besides the piano, she has studied organ with Paul Barte and Pablo Castellanos, and harpsichord with Rubén Guzmán and Bruno Procopio. She has received classes of baroque music at courses with Jacques Ogg, Ketil Haugsand and Alessandro Santoro, among others.
She is a former principal pianist of the UNESCO awarded network “El Sistema”. She was the titular pianist at Teresa Carreño Youth Symphony Orchestra, a collaborative pianist of the Latin American Academy of Flutes, and participated of multiple concerts and festivals. Laura has partnered with the “Orquesta Barroca Simón Bolívar”, “Orquesta de Cámara Mozarteum Caracas”, “Orquesta Filarmónica Nacional de Venezuela”, “Orquesta Juvenil de Caracas”, “Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela”, “Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas”, “Schola Cantorum de Venezuela”, among others, and performed at the most prestigious venues in Europe, Asia, and the US, under the baton of internationally known artists such as Gustavo Dudamel, Christian Vazquez, Diego Matheuz, Alberto Grau, and María Guinand.

Alexandra Taggart

Alexandra Taggart is a graduate piano performance and pedagogy student of Dr. Christopher Fisher at Ohio University. She holds a graduate assistantship with which she teaches group piano and accompanies in the School of Music. Alexandra was awarded honorable mention for her concerto performance in Ohio University’s 2018-2019 Student Soloist Competition.
Alexandra completed her undergraduate degrees at Florida State University where she studied piano with Dr. Heidi Williams. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs with a concentration in Italian. She was named a Fulbright semi-finalist for the Italy English Teaching Assistant award for the 2018-2019 academic year.
While at FSU Alexandra participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. She presented musicology research at university conferences and taught an interdisciplinary research colloquium. She gave piano performances in the university and community and played clarinet in FSU’s concert band.
This summer Alexandra participated in the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria. She serves as president of Ohio University’s Collegiate Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Alexandra completed her undergraduate degrees at Florida State University where she studied piano with Dr. Heidi Williams. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs with a concentration in Italian. She was named a Fulbright semi-finalist for the Italy English Teaching Assistant award for the 2018-2019 academic year.
While at FSU Alexandra participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. She presented musicology research at university conferences and taught an interdisciplinary research colloquium. She gave piano performances in the university and community and played clarinet in FSU’s concert band.
This summer Alexandra participated in the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria. She serves as president of Ohio University’s Collegiate Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association for the 2019-2020 academic year.
